Michael Medwar attended his first Oley conference with his parents when he was in his teens and his involvement in the foundation has grown throughout the years. He has served on the Oley Board of Trustees since 2003 and as secretary since 2006. Michael was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at the age of 9 and his early treatment included parental and enteral feedings at home and in the hospital. He had surgery to remove much of his colon when he was 15, but the Crohn's returned and was treated on home TPN from the age of 17 to 31. He has been able to remain off TPN since 2001 thanks to diet, exercise, and good luck. Michael has worked in newspapers as a writer and editor since he graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1992 and is glad to share his experiences over the years with anyone.
